Simon R Green has produced another awesome book and it may be one of his best. The Ishmael Jones Mysteries have all been horror/sci fi themed country house murder mysteries but each different enough not to feel repetitive. This one contains the best mystery of the three so far. Mister Green plays fair too. Every clue you need to solve the principle mystery is there. You just have to be paying attention. If you haven't read the other two, you can even start with this one since no really important information is given away which would affect your enjoyment of the previous two.Lastly, I think I need to address the first reviewer's comments about female characters. Frankly, I don't think any in this book are badly served. All are full characters and don't wait for the menfolk to do their acting or thinking for them. True, none are of the type that are the female leads in the Drood or Nightside books but the Jones Mysteries are neither of those series and female characters like that would be out of place. Ishmael is different from the male leads so why not the female leads as well?
A typical (great) Simon R. Green tale. Ostensibly a different story line about an abandoned alien and his (it's??) adventures as a detective, the world of Ishmael Jones still interacts with Green's other worlds. This is what makes the tale so pleasant, hinting of Droods, gods, monsters and other elements of Green's other series. One never knows (and still hopes) that Ishmael will run across Eddie Drood or a character from the Nightside. It would, however, be nice to see a couple hundred more pages per story. They always seem to end so quickly!Good job, Simon! Keep Ishmael around!
I love Green. I wish he would write another Night Side book. I really like the weirdness!
Not his best work. Rather disappointed in this book. I love the Nightside series and the Droods. Probably not get the next one in this series.
Classic Simon Green and classic Dark Manor House mystery. Quirky characters, twisty plot. I'm not sure how Simon green continues to get away with kind formulaic themes and details, but he keeps pulling it off. A fun read.
At the third book now, the series is growing on me. But it has never grabbed me from page 1 the the way Nightside and Secret histories did. I certainly won't be spending the hardback price for the kindle edition of book 4.
Not as good as the rest of the series. I am glad it is over. There is more to read.
My only complaint was that there was a timeline error. You'll notice it. Otherwise, another amazing book by my favorite author.
